One of the most exciting things about Starlight is seeing how schools are finding creative, adaptable ways to use it. More and more schools are discovering that Starlight isn’t just about lesson feedback — it’s also a powerful tool for capturing and developing everyday professional practice.

A great example is the growing use of our Meeting Minutes & Actions Generator. This system template has become one of the most popular across schools, thanks to its massive time-saving potential. Instead of scrambling to take notes, you can simply record your meeting, and Starlight will:

  • Create a clear log of the discussion

  • Capture key decisions

  • Generate action items with responsibilities and deadlines

  • Allow you to listen back at any point for clarity

Because so many schools are relying on this template, we’ve now updated it to bring it fully in line with Starlight’s identity as a coaching platform.

What’s New?

The Meeting Minutes & Actions Generator now includes two additional coaching-focused sections:

  • Coaching Feedback on Strengths Observed – highlighting what worked well in the meeting, with a simple rating scale from one to five. This scale makes it easy to track progress over time and recognise effective practices.

  • Coaching Feedback on Areas for Growth – ensuring every meeting generates at least one constructive suggestion to improve efficiency, focus, or collaboration next time.

We’ve also included an Options to Consider section, where the AI can suggest potential approaches or solutions to challenges raised in the meeting. These aren’t mandatory actions, but helpful prompts to spark reflection and problem-solving.

Why This Matters

By adding these features, Starlight goes beyond simple note-taking. It becomes a developmental tool — one that not only saves you time but also helps your teams reflect, improve, and grow together.

Adding Value to Constellation Analysis

Uploading meetings into Starlight doesn’t just generate minutes and actions — it also strengthens your Constellation analysis. Because Constellation aggregates data anonymously across your organisation, every meeting recording contributes to a richer picture of professional dialogue. Starlight is sophisticated enough to distinguish between lessons and meetings, ensuring that different contexts are analysed appropriately. For senior leaders, this means not only seeing patterns in teaching practice but also identifying recurring themes, concerns, and priorities emerging in meetings across the school. This broader perspective helps leadership teams respond more strategically, spot issues early, and support staff development with confidence — always with data that is anonymous and aggregated.

This update is part of our ongoing commitment: we’re constantly looking for ways to improve practice, reduce workload, and make coaching accessible in every part of school life.

The Insight Engine is written by Adam Sturdee, co-founder of Starlight—the UK’s first AI-powered coaching platform—and Assistant Headteacher at St Augustine’s Catholic College. This blog is part of a wider mission to support educators through meaningful reflection, not performance metrics. It documents the journey of building Starlight from the ground up, and explores how AI, when shaped with care, can reduce workload, surface insight, and help teachers think more deeply about their practice. Rooted in the belief that growth should be private, professional, and purposeful, The Insight Engine offers ideas and stories that put insight—not judgment—at the centre of development.
